Communications and Marketing Manager

Basic Function:

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy and Volunteers, this part-time position involves a range of communication responsibilities that includes public relations, marketing, media relations, social media, and publications for Breathe New Hampshire. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:

This position has responsibility for external communications, marketing and name branding for the agency. Working closely with the Director of Philanthropy and Volunteers, develop and implement marketing and communications strategies to promote special events and public involvement in a timely fashion.  Also, to design strategies for public programming in a variety of mission related areas, and with all staff to ensure that everyone is current and aware of the organization’s issues, key messaging and mission.

Responsibilities include:

-        Manage association social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

-        Development of marketing/communication strategies to promote the organization’s programs and events.

-        Develop and maintain a good working relationship with various media sources and leverage relationship to highlight the critical work of the organization.

-        Manage various annual publications working closely with graphic designer to ensure accuracy and messaging.

-        Manage media inquiries and assist staff as a spokesperson for Breathe NH in the areas of program promotion, external affairs, and institutional advancement.

-        Work with staff to ensure that the appropriate messaging is developed with regard to constituent stories, legislative testimony, press releases, Op-Ed’s and other external communications.

-        Serve on working committees as appropriate and when necessary.

-        Other miscellaneous responsibilities as deemed necessary.



Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience, plus 3 to 5 years’ experience working in communications, PR or marketing. Position requires an individual with excellent verbal and written communications skills, along with a thorough knowledge of and comfort with media relations, preferably in a public health sector.  

The individual in this position must be a self-starter, with the ability to comprehend the organization’s mission and work, and to promote that to the public with the objective of advancing the mission and stimulating public support. In addition, the individual will interact with all staff members and need to balance priorities, as multiple assignments may be occurring simultaneously.  Being creative, collaborative and a team player is essential in this small non-profit public health organization. 

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact as well as knowledge and understanding of current trends in social media preferred.
