Suzy Brand, a 5th grader at Sant Bani School, was inaugurated as New Hampshire’s Kid Governor on Friday, January 17th, 2020 at the NH State House.
Suzy’s platform was based on her belief that children need more time outdoors. 5th graders from across New Hampshire loved her platform and overwhelmingly voted her in as the next Kid Governor. She says she will use her yearlong term as the 2020 New Hampshire’s Kid Governor (NHKG) to raise money and gather donations for outdoor gear, share outdoor challenges on her blog, and work on a bill to get students more time outdoors during the school day.
New Hampshire Institute of Politics (NHIOP) and New Hampshire Institute for Civics Education (NHICE) have partnered to bring the national award-winning civics program for fifth graders to the Granite State. This program immerses students in state government, campaigning, and civic participation through a real-life election timed to coincide with Election Day in November. Each school can nominate one candidate, who will run using a short three-minute video centered on a community issue and a three-point action plan.
Sant Bani School's 5th grade chose Suzy to represent them in the election and helped her create her campaign video. In this video, she shared her passion for children’s health and time outdoors. Click here to check out Suzy’s video:
