American Automobile Association (AAA) Northern New England recently donated $15,000 to the Community Colleges of NH Foundation to be used to award scholarships to students studying Automotive Technology at the state’s community colleges.
Automotive Technology at the community colleges is a state-of-the-art program combining classroom and practical training with on-the-job experience. The Community College System instructs approximately 325 automotive technology students annually at the four colleges that offer the programs: White Mountains Community College in Berlin, Lakes Region Community College in Laconia, Manchester Community College, and Nashua Community College. Curriculum designed to meet student interest and workforce needs include Asian, European, and domestic makes, Chrysler (CAP), Toyota (T-Ten), Automotive Service Education Program (GM ASEP), Honda-Acura Automotive Technology, and Collision Repair Technology.
Claudette Mahar, Community College System Trustee and Foundation Chairperson accepted the gift and added: “At the Community Colleges, the automotive technology programs empower students with the latest skills and knowledge needed for success in the automotive service industry. We appreciate AAA’s support as the colleges work to provide our State with a proficient source of well-trained automotive technicians.”
The Community Colleges of New Hampshire Foundation was incorporated in February 2000 and is a 501(c)(3) corporation. The Foundation’s mission is to support the Community College System of New Hampshire by making higher education more accessible.
