In the spirit of the holidays, and in keeping with the credit union creed of “people helping people,” Northeast Credit Union donated $5000 to the NH Food Bank yesterday afternoon. In addition to the $5,000 donation, Northeast Credit Union staff members contributed another $520 to support the NH Food Bank’s efforts. The donations will help the food bank provide over 10,000 nutritious meals to people throughout the state this holiday season.
In presenting the $5000 check to the NH Food Bank, Northeast Credit Union Vice President of Marketing, Andrea Pruna, stated, “Northeast Credit Union believes that serving our members extends to serving the communities in which our members live and work. We are honored to support the important mission of the NH Food Bank and its efforts to provide for the most basic of human needs while fighting to end hunger in the state of New Hampshire.”
The NH Food Bank distributes over 8.5 million pounds of food to over 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, day care centers and senior citizen homes throughout New Hampshire each year. Melanie Gosselin, Executive Director for the NH Food Bank noted that the donation from Northeast Credit Union couldn’t have come at a better time and said, “We are receiving more and more requests from agency partners and our shelves are empty - we simply can’t keep up with the increased demand. We can’t thank Northeast Credit Union enough for their support.” Gosselin also noted that the recent closures of Stop & Shop and Shaw’s supermarkets in the state has significantly reduced the quantity of food donations it has received this year making it even more difficult to meet the needs of the growing number of people who are food insecure in the state.
