Director of Development

New Hampshire Humanities (NHH) provides opportunities to cultivate curiosity, connect across cultures, examine beliefs, practice civility, and ignite ideas. We do this by providing public programs and grants to partners statewide to engage residents in learning, reflection, and meaningful conversation.

NH Humanities has a long history of strong financial support from individual, foundation, and corporate donors.   We are looking for a dynamic Director of Development to join our energized team which includes an active Board of Directors, a Director of Communications, and an Executive Director.   This position will manage a FT Director of Annual Giving, and a PT Grant Writer and reports to the Executive Director.

Job Summary: Responsible for planning, organizing and direction of all the organization’s fundraising.  

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

=         In conjunction with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Director of Annual Giving and Grant Writer, create a resource development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization.   

=         Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events with donors and potential donors as specified in the resource development plan.

=         Able to take a broad view of all fundraising activities and ensure NHH program managers optimize opportunities by forging cooperative and effective working relationships in support of NHH’s resource development efforts. 

=         Oversee grants activities including research, proposal writing and reporting requirements.

=         Prospect, identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors to grow a major gifts program.

=         Provide support and direction to staff for all fundraising drives.

=         Monitor trends in the region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.

=         Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience:

=         Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fundraising, with proven, measurable results; demonstrated planning and organizational skills.  

=         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as strong organizational and management abilities. 

=         Ability to interact with a variety of organizations, people and communities in the state

=         Major gift fundraising and grant writing experience.

=         Possesses the ability to think strategically, tactically, creatively and flexibly.

=         Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically excel, word, outlook and database experience (Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge preferred).

=         Willing to travel statewide and attend off-hours events
